Halloween Fun🎃🎃

Please be aware that the school asks that children do not wear

their Halloween costumes to school on Thursday and Friday,

October 29th and 30th.   Instead the kindergarten and first

grade classes have decided to have a pajama day.  Your child is

welcome to wear their PJ's and bathrobes to school and bring

slippers to wear.  Please remember that we will still have recess

so warm outdoor clothing will be needed.  We will be providing a

special treat for the kids that day.  Thank-you for your help!

New resource

We have introduced the kiddos to the reading program called Epic.  This is a wonderful
resource with many many amazing books.

Here are a few really important things to remember about epic....

1. Pod 1 accessed epic through Google, but now the app has been added for
easier access.

2. Our class code is.  pci7595

3. The hours of free use are limited when students are
at home, and it is thought that when students reach the
limit, the website will prompt them to enter a credit card number.
Parents please NEVER do this

Thank you

 Happy Friday!

Both Pod 1 and Pod 2  practiced taking a photo with iPads and

submitting it or turning it in. They all thought it was pretty cool to see

their assignment "pop up" in my Google Classroom.

They set up their Math program profile and successfully

found and viewed their first video.

Thank you for taking using the attendance form on remote days.

I also want to say how proud I am of how responsible the students

are being with the iPads.  😁

Have an awesome weekend!

iPads

The iPads are going home on Monday and on Tuesday

with the students.  They will also have a charger kept in

a zipper bag.  The charger does not need to come to school

with the students.  For now....Please send your child to

school with their iPad. Please remind them to carry the

handle and to not put them in their backpacks. It would

be helpful if the iPads would be fully charged the night

before bringing them to school.

IPADS

We are very excited to let you know that the IPads are here!  They are being set up, teachers, and kids are being trained.  They will be coming home early next week.

Please be on the lookout for them.😃

There are 2 rule papers going home.  One is to read sign and return, and the other
one is to keep at home in your important paper pile or folder.

Tuesday, September 22, 2020

                                             Just a few reminders😀

Please remember that the water fountains are not

working, so each child will need a water bottle each

day. We can fill bottles, but they can not drink from

the fountains.

Also please remember to send your child with a spoon

or fork if they need one with their snack or lunch.

The children are doing a good job at independently

opening their snacks and containers.  **We do

have 2 snack breaks per day.**

Wednesday is the day to access the specials. Please

check out each teacher's blog. (Mrs. Stone, Mrs. Miller,

Mr. Charpentier & Mrs. Ludden)

Mrs. Stevens sent home a paper assignment.  It went

home in each folder today.

🌟A GREAT BIG THANK YOU for returning school work

on your students next school day🌟

Thanks for your continued support.

 Dear Parents,

As we work through what  hybrid learning looks like,

we realize that not all work is differentiated for your

student’s ability.  Here are some ways you can address this at home.

Struggling learners

Advanced learners

*break up learning sessions into smaller time periods

*have students read the read aloud selection/poems to you

*give your student extra practice on needed skills such as letter ID and sight words or math concepts

*give your child more opportunities for deeper discussions of stories (sequencing, character motivation, and cause and effect)

*reread familiar text multiple times

*students can use the sight words to make up sentences, or they can put sight words in alphabetical order

*use math tools such as counters, pictures, and number lines to help with math concepts

*encourage your student to explain and defend their mathematical reasoning, or as the adult come up with similar math work and have your student critique your reasoning

**These are just a few examples of how to differentiate

 for you child.**

 September 14, 2020

Hi,

There will be a few important things going home in the take home folders today or on Tuesday.

1. A book order - due date is September 26th

2. A math glossary -This a tool that should stay home in a safe place. It is a reference booklet with all our Math vocabulary for the year and examples of each.

3. Art homework with directions for Wednesday's remote special day. I believe the Mrs. Miller should have some music activities listed on her blog.  Her blog can be reached from the CDS webpage (if your student has a device they can use & if not do not worry about it)

Also here is a letter from Mrs. Ludden

First week of first grade is complete!

One of my favorite things to do as a teacher is read with my class, and to have discussions about the books.  During a read aloud this week we talked about how the character was feeling about starting school and how we were feeling about starting school. The words glad, excited, happy, nervous, and couldn't wait came up in our discussions.  As I listened to their thoughts and explanations I was one happy and lucky teacher!  The children have done so well this week with all the new safety procedures, schedules, and different ways of doing things. I am so proud of how they are handling everything.  They came to school ready to learn and to be the best first grader they can be!  Seems like a great start to our year!😊

Pod 2 Students - Thursday, September 10

 Dear Pod 2 Students,

Your work at home for Thursday this week will be to complete your Math About Me assignment, and read to self for at least 15 minutes.

More detailed assignments for each Remote Day will begin for the week of Monday, September 14. We are slowly easing our way into first grade, going over routines and procedures, and getting used to the hybrid model.

Can't wait to see you Friday!

*Due to the Ipads being delayed we are not requiring any online or Google Classroom work at this time.*

 Dear Parents,

Sorry for any confusion about the Wednesday virtual learning.

Wednesdays are reserved for remote learning for all specials

(Art, Music, PE, Guidance, and Computer). This is expected

to begin next Wednesday the 16th.

We are still waiting for our devices to be shipped,

so next Wednesday if you do not have a device at

home to be used we totally understand.  You can expect to

start Wednesday specials later in September.

Thank you

 9/08/20

Dear 1st Grade Parents,.

We will be taking attendance each day through Google Classroom.

Because your student’s tablet is not ready to go home yet, and we

have not practiced Google Classroom at school, we are asking that you

use the attached calendar to help us with daily attendance. Each day that

your student is participating in school work from home, please initial that

date on the calendar. Please keep the calendar in your student’s Take Home

Folder, so that it can travel back and forth to school during the week. Once

we have tablets ready to go home, we will transition to taking attendance electronically.

As always, thank you for your support!

***Also the take home folders have lots of paperwork for you to fill out....parent

homework...LOL

There are also some papers that have passwords. Please keep these in a safe place.

(We will use this when we get our tablets)

We had an awesome first day and the kids did very well.  Many said

they wished they could come back tomorrow, I'd say that was success!

I can not wait for the first day with Pod 1.

Mrs. Lausier

Friday, September 4, 2020

Dear Parents,

Here are a few answers to some recently asked questions to hybrid learning.

  1. When does my pod 1 child start school work?

Because pod 1 students are in school Monday and Thursday they

will not begin school work until Thursday September 10th.

We would like a chance to work with your student in person before

assigning at home work.

  1. When will my child receive their tablet?

Tablets are scheduled to arrive the week of the 14th.  Once they get

to the school the staff will need time to prepare them for your learner.

Paper school work will come to begin hybrid learning on the 14th. Devices will

not be used until a later date.

  1. What is my home schedule going to look like?

Your first grader should not do more than 2 to 3 hours(some days

it will be shorter) of school work while at home. This can be done

at any time during your day.

HOWEVER….we will be sending a Google Form to your child’s email on

their at home days.  Please help your child respond to this form by 9:00 each day

they are home.

This is how we take attendance.  More info to follow on this topic :)

  1. Can my child bring toys to school?

No, they should not be bringing any extra stuff to school. Just their backpack

(folder &  any work),water bottle, snack, and lunch if needed.

Please remember health guidelines and school protocol may change as time goes on.

We will do our best to keep you informed of any changes.

Thank you for your continued support and flexibility.

Getting our classroom ready for our first day together.

 To: Parents/Guardians

 Fm: Judy Marvin

Re: Morning Drop-Off / Afternoon Drop-Off

Following Maine CDC guidelines for public school systems, we will need to follow a specific protocol in regards to dropping students off at school in the morning. We ask that you adhere to this protocol. Our hope will be that we can do this as quickly and as smoothly as possible for everyone. As always, please be patient with us for the first couple of days as we learn how to do this ourselves. Students may be dropped off between 7:30-8:00 Drop off spots: Middle School Students: Roundabout by the gym Grades PreK-4: Roundabout by the main office Prior to your child getting to school a daily self-check must be completed by you, as the parent, regarding your child. The following questions must be asked to your child (or answered by you): 1. Do you feel sick with any symptoms consistent with COVID-19? (such as a new cough, shortness of breath, chills, muscle pain, sore throat, new loss of taste or smell) 2. Have you been around anyone who is unwell? 3. Have you been in close contact with a person who has COVID-19? 4. Within the past 24 hours, have you had a fever (100.4 and above) or used any fever reducing medicine? IF THE ANSWER IS YES TO ANY OF THE QUESTIONS, STAY HOME A Center Drive staff member will be outside in each drop off spot to welcome your child. He/she will then enter the building and immediately sanitize their hands and go to their classrooms. Due to maintaining consistency among pods in the event of contact tracing, students cannot go onto a bus at the last minute. Their bus transportation must be consistent for both days. If/when this restriction changes, parents will be notified.

Following Maine CDC guidelines for public school systems, we will need to follow a specific protocol in regards to picking students up at the end of the day. Parents will not be allowed in the building without a scheduled appointment, limiting the amount of people from the public in the building at one time. We ask that you adhere to this protocol. Our hope will be that we can do this as quickly and as smoothly as possible for everyone. As always, please be patient with us for the first couple of days as we learn how to do this ourselves. Students may be picked up between 2:40-3:00 Pick-up spot: Roundabout by the gym At 2:40, the roundabout will be open to traffic. Parents are asked to drive around to the designated spot. A Center Drive employee will approach your car and call for your child. Students will be called to exit the building and go directly to your car. Due to maintaining consistency among pods in the event of contact tracing, students cannot go onto a bus at the last minute. Their bus transportation must be consistent for both days. If/when this restriction changes, parents will be notified

Information is subject to change based on any new guidance received from the Maine CDC and Maine Department of Education. Information will be revised if/when this occurs.

                                                            Mask Update

 To: Parents/Guardians

Fm: Judy Marvin

Re: Masks/Face Coverings

Anyone riding our buses or entering our building will be required to wear masks/face coverings and/or shields. Following the Framework from the Department of Education, the explanation is as follows:

“Masks/Face Coverings - Adults, including educators and staff, are required to wear a mask/face covering. Students age five and above are required to wear a mask/face covering that covers their nose and mouth. (updated 7/31/20). Masks are recommended for children ages two to four, when developmentally appropriate. (Updated 7/31/20). Masks/face coverings must be worn by all students on the bus. Face shields may be an alternative for those students with documented medical or behavioral challenges who are unable to wear masks/face coverings. (Updated 8/12/20). The same applies to staff with medical or other health reasons for being unable to wear face coverings. Face shields worn in place of a face covering must extend below the chin and back to the ears.”  Center Drive School is requiring our pre-k students to wear face masks/face coverings.

The school has purchased face masks and shields for students and adults and will be provided upon request, but we understand that many students wish to wear their own masks. It is recommended that face coverings should cover your nose and mouth, fit snugly against the sides of your face. Cloth face coverings should have multiple layers of cloth. We expect masks and/or shields to be appropriate for a school setting and not distracting to others. Please include multiple masks in your child’s backpack in the event that the mask needs to be changed. Masks should be washed at home daily.

Students will be given “mask breaks” throughout the day following the safety guidelines.

I am including a YouTube link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Srig59LN6ik  that is appropriate for younger students on how to put on and take off masks. I am including another link: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/prevent-getting-sick/how-to-wear-cloth-face-coverings.html more appropriate for our older students.

Information is subject to change based on any new guidance received from the Maine CDC and Maine Department of Education. Information will be revised if/when this occurs.
