When someone at school said that today would be a ❄snow day❄....I did not want to believe them!  I wanted our 1/2 day to have our Classroom Christmas party and to send everyone off with Holiday wishes. Please let the children know that their gift bags, all the goodies that were sent in are stacked on the green table, and we will have a  late Christmas/New Year's Celebration when we return.  🎄🎉

Everyone seemed to have lots of fun during our book day celebration yesterday. I heard, "This is the best day ever" & "Thank you for the fun day." Each day at CDS I am reminded of how lucky I am to get to work with such awesome kiddos. Thanks for sharing them with me! I am anxious to return and hear all about  their time off.

Let them know we are starting a new unit in math all about numbers and counting to 120 ( by 1's, 10's and 5's) and we are working with number patterns. We will start studying space....so much fun! If time allows, practice counting and read some great books.

Wishing you a happy, healthy, and safe holiday season with family and friends.  Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Looks like winter is here to stay!❄❅❆⛄

Please be sure that your child has the appropriate clothing to play outside…..hat, gloves, boots, snow pants, and a warm jacket.

Please send in some shoes that your child can change into. Our floor and rug areas get very wet from the winter boots and it becomes a safety issue. Also feet do get hot in their winter boots if they are worn all day.  If you want to send in a pair of shoes that can remain in our classroom all winter long that is fine. We have a safe spot to keep them. Please just let me know if that is your plan.

Thank you :)

    SPELLING TESTS

WE WILL BE STARTING WEEKLY SPELLING TESTS!

Each first day of the week the students will bring home a spelling list and a spelling Tic - Tac - Toe Board (this gives ideas to help them practice throughout the week). Our tests are usually on Friday or the last day of each school week.

Some weeks your student’s list may include a different set of words. This is because each Monday (or first day of the week) we take a Spelling PreTest, and this helps each child get a “just right list.”

Have a great first week studying and practicing your Spelling words.  The kids were pretty excited to hear we were having spelling tests and homework to study for our test. 😁

                           HOMEWORK

We will be spending the next few weeks researching animals to become an animal expert.  Then, we will be writing our own “All About” books to show what we have learned.

The students have all picked their animal, and are bringing home a

letter requesting your help. Please help them research and find 3 facts about their animal. They also need to practice reading their 3 facts at home, so they can share them at school.

Some examples are

  1. What do they eat?

  2. What do they do?

  3. What do they like?

  4. Where do they live?

  5. How do they look?

Facts need to be returned by Tuesday, November 2, 2021.

On Friday, October 29th we will be having PJ day.  (We ask that no Halloween costumes be worn.) We will also be participating in some Halloween themed activities.  I will be bringing in some treats for the class.  If you do wish to send in some treats, please remember we have  16 kids in our classroom & the treats need to be store bought and/or in a package.

                                                       Happy October🍂

Here are a few important dates for the month...

*October 8th no school - teacher inservice day

**October 11th no school -Holiday

***October 15th - book orders are due (I have been told by Scholastic that

the September order is running late, but should be here shortly)

****October 26th  - School Photo Day

I am sending home the list of the sight words that we will be focusing on during the

first trimester.  You can practice these words with your child - make flash cards,

make a memory game with them, look for them as you read together, build them

with letters, write them with chalk, or be creative and have fun with these words.

In math, we are working on fluently adding and subtracting within 10.

We have practiced many different strategies, and we are rocking this.

Any additional practice at home would be awesome!

                               IXL Information🔢

The students will be bringing home a letter that has their username and password

to be used with IXL Math.  It also has the website address and IXL can also be reached from

the CDS homepage.  Students can practice IXL at home if they wish to do so.  Please keep this

info at home.

                           Headphones🎧

Many of the students had headphones at school last year to be used for computer class and with their iPads.  If possible could those headphones or a different pair be sent back to school.  They will be kept in a labeled baggie for their use only. Thank you.

Fantastic First Graders

We had a great first 3 days of school! The students are doing so well with
classroom and school routines.  It is awesome to see everyone returning their
folders daily.  Please remember that we have 2 snack times. It is also very
helpful to bring a water bottle daily.

The students brought a library book home today. They are able to bring one home, and keep one in their classroom book box.  Please remember to send the book back for library class, which is every Tuesday. If they finish with their book early we have a library bucket to keep it in.

Here is our Specials Schedule...
