Re: Masks/Face Coverings

Anyone riding our buses or entering our building will be required to wear masks/face coverings and/or shields. Following the Framework from the Department of Education, the explanation is as follows:

“Masks/Face Coverings - Adults, including educators and staff, are required to wear a mask/face covering. Students age five and above are required to wear a mask/face covering that covers their nose and mouth. (updated 7/31/20). Masks are recommended for children ages two to four, when developmentally appropriate. (Updated 7/31/20). Masks/face coverings must be worn by all students on the bus. Face shields may be an alternative for those students with documented medical or behavioral challenges who are unable to wear masks/face coverings. (Updated 8/12/20). The same applies to staff with medical or other health reasons for being unable to wear face coverings. Face shields worn in place of a face covering must extend below the chin and back to the ears.”  Center Drive School is requiring our pre-k students to wear face masks/face coverings.

The school has purchased face masks and shields for students and adults and will be provided upon request, but we understand that many students wish to wear their own masks. It is recommended that face coverings should cover your nose and mouth, fit snugly against the sides of your face. Cloth face coverings should have multiple layers of cloth. We expect masks and/or shields to be appropriate for a school setting and not distracting to others. Please include multiple masks in your child’s backpack in the event that the mask needs to be changed. Masks should be washed at home daily.

Students will be given “mask breaks” throughout the day following the safety guidelines.

I am including a YouTube link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Srig59LN6ik  that is appropriate for younger students on how to put on and take off masks. I am including another link: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/prevent-getting-sick/how-to-wear-cloth-face-coverings.html more appropriate for our older students.

Information is subject to change based on any new guidance received from the Maine CDC and Maine Department of Education. Information will be revised if/when this occurs.
